Immediate Release
Back-page spread and articles for Art&Leisure,
a tabloid edited by Julieta Aranda and Carlos Motta (the Generals),
2005
This is the first of Camel Collective's "Submission" works. NYC Galleries Need Immediate Release grew out of non-exhaustive linguistic research of gallery press releases undertaken over the course of a season of exhibitions in Chelsea (Fall 2004).

Long lists of verbs were compiled as to what artworks were capable of doing (verbs such as explore, interrogate, resuscitate, capture, conceal, engage, explode, exploit... etc appeared to present patterns). These were tabulated according to their "Magic" (utopian or metaphysical) or "Tragic" (distopian or traumatic) implications. To quote one press release that potentially describes the relation between the texts and our situation, "... these are not imaginary worlds, this is our world".

We discovered the central agent, our subject, charged with making these crucial claims on behalf of a season of cultural production to be a young woman, probably unpaid, in her early twenties, asleep at her laptop.

In addition to Immediate Release, Camel Collective's contributions also consisted of A Collector's Report and a Person on the Street Opinion Poll about the apparent death of criticism.
